My workshops are playful and thoughtful. We begin with an unexpected question, image, object or idea - a postcard, a shell, a stranger's overheard sentence - and follow it until a story appears. No jargon, no performance, no rules about the right kind of writer to be.

What workshops are like
You don't need to arrive with an idea, a project or even much confidence. We might begin with a photograph, a sentence, a memory, an object or an odd question. I'll give you enough structure to get started, then room to follow what appears. There's writing, conversation and often a surprising amount of laughter. Sharing is always invited, never compulsory.

Cake, tea and fiction. We take something small and comforting - a biscuit, a cup, a rumour overheard two tables away - and write our way into the stories underneath it.

A recent favourite
5 Coffees Long
A story the length of five coffees. We meet in cafés - real and imagined - and write in short, caffeinated bursts: five sittings, five prompts, five small pieces that often turn out to belong together. It began as an experiment in writing in public and became one of the most-loved things I run.
